Easter weekend

After Sunrise Service we had our LYF breakfast. That will be my last for a while, since there will be some new sponsors as of the end of the summer. Yea! 6 years is plenty! Sunrise is still my favorite, so next year, I'll get to eat and sit down! Cael found lots of Easter eggs at Grandma's in Arapahoe. Allen was supposed to work 3am to 12 on Sunday, but fortunately, he got off early, so we headed west. When we got home, we put up Cael's new bed. Yes, it has a slide and a tent. Inside the tent.

Before and after

This is what the dining room looked like when we moved in. Gag. Curtains changed. New color on the wall. Wood floors refinished. New dining room set. New lighting. Beautiful! :) Grandpa Blake came for a visit on Tuesday, since he and Allen both had the day off. This is what I put above our bed in the newly redrywalled room.

End of a season and new floors

Yesterday was State Speech. If you saw the weather reports for our area, it happened to be snow/blowing snow-up to two inches. Needless to say, walking around the UNK campus was miserable. It was worth it, though to see my kids perform at the state level. I took 4 kids-3 events and got to see my sister and some of my coaching friends from around the area. Allen came with us, as usual, as my driver. He tends to come to State with me, since I'm with him for almost all of the wrestling meets. My kids didn't final, but they did well, and I'm proud of them nonetheless. It was a good season for all of my kids. This week we've had Craftsman Hardwood Company in our dining room refinishing our oak floor. It's beautiful!! What a great find under the icky green carpet. We really wanted our bedroom to be refinished as well, but it was so warped and damaged by previous owners, that it just wasn't financially reasonable at this time. So after a trip to Nelson's furniture in GI, we picked out some carpet and it is being installed on Thursday of next week. Hopefully we'll be able to put things in order after that. Now we just have some painting projects to finish...

State Competitors

In February, Allen took Jake to State. He ended up with 4th place! It was a good effort, but he was bummed, because he really wanted to get first. If he would've been on the other side of the bracket, he probably would have, but that's the way it goes. As for me, I'm taking 3 events to State Speech on the 19th of March. We had 14 events compete, 10 finaled, and 3 qualified. I'm proud of all of my team members!

Districts

Allen has his first District Champion! We're so proud of all the boys. Brad came sooo close. He got beat by 2 at the very last second. It was a heartbreaker, but he had a good senior season. We are ready to go cheer on Jake at State this week!

February chaos

February in the Blake house is pretty much chaos. Wrestling meets and speech meets every weekend make for a very messy house. We come home, dump our stuff and head back out again. Cael starts wrestling practice next Tuesday. I'm sure he'll have lots of stories for whoever will listen. District wrestling is next weekend (this week is Central Catholic, but I'll be in Aurora speeching it up) in Sutton, then State the next weekend. I continue speech meets until March 19, which is State. Our big banquet is also that weekend for the school. I'm putting on a Jr. High speech meet on Maunday Thursday, and a psuedo-musical May 1. I'm sure I've forgotten something. I'm just glad we have activities to keep us busy, and a family to share them with. Allen brings me stats, so I can be the computer nerd. Gotta pray.
