Vacation
Wow. It's been a long week and a half, but it's time to get back to life. Bummer. Last weekend, Cael and I went to Des Moines with my cousin Cathy to run in the Dam to Dam race. Cathy ran the 20k, Allison (Karen's daughter) and I ran the 5k, and Cael ran the 100m Youth Run. Cathy had to run in a downpour :(, but it cleared off for the 5k. We all made it just fine and had a great time seeing lots of family - except for Cheryl and Doug who were in Wisconsin for their anniversary. We came back on Sunday, then all three of us left on Monday for Nebraska City for an overnight stay. We headed out Tuesday morning for Sweet Springs, MO where our college friends, Dan and Sara Wing (and three Winglets), live. Thursday morning, we headed out to St. Louis, and stayed at Jellystone Park by Six Flags. Thursday, we went to the Science Center. Then we went back to Jellystone and went swimming, grilled burgers, and roasted marshmellows. Friday, the weather was threatening, so we decided to put off Six Flags one more day and we went to the Arch. Allen, Cael, Katie, Matt, and I went to the top. It was pretty cool! Then we went to the Seminary and had a look around. The Magic House was our last stop of the day. It's a really neat children's museum, that to really appreciate, you would need a whole day! :) Finally, on Saturday, we went to Six Flags. Cael did super! He was patient in the lines, and drank lots of water to keep hydrated. He LOVED Thunder River and the Log Flume. He also really liked the really big ferris wheel. He is NOT afraid of heights whatsoever! We went on the small roller coaster twice, but he still didn't like the part of it that went in a tunnel ("that part's too scary, Mom"). Otherwise, we probably would've gone on it three or four times. We attended church with the Wings on Sunday, watching Dan in the pulpit. He's a great pastor! His congregation is really lucky to have him. We drove straight through 3 hours to Lincoln, had supper, and 2 hours home. Not a peep from Cael. He was truly awesome the whole trip with the traveling, heat, humidity, and learning to share with 3 new friends. I'll get pictures scrapblogged as soon as possible. In the meantime, Cael started gymnastics and LOVES it! He also starts swimming lessons for his second year tomorrow with one of my former students in Shelton. I hope everyone's summer is going well!
